Google Answers How To Deal With Its Broad Core Algorithm Update
For the past few months, Google’s Broad Core Algorithm has amassed massive attention in the SEO community. And a large part of that attention went to “what” “how” and, yes, “f$ck!!”
What it is?
How to deal with it?
How to ensure it doesn’t affect my site?
While Google would tweet about such updates, they would, unsurprisingly, remain vague, leaving people with more questions than they answer.
But we now have a few answers. Recently, the search giant recently published a post on its webmasters’ blog, giving some insights about its broad core algorithm updates.
It’s All About Content
“They’re (updates) designed to ensure that overall, we’re delivering on our mission to present relevant and authoritative content to searchers,” Google says. And then it goes on to explain how webmasters can measure the quality of their content based on E-A-T factors – Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.
There’s Nothing Wrong With Your Site If It’s Negatively Hit
Yes, don’t assume that there’s something wrong with your site if it’s negatively hit following the core updates.
Google says, “There’s nothing wrong with pages that may perform less well in a core update.”
“The changes are about improving how our systems assess content overall. These changes may cause some pages that were previously under-rewarded to do better,” it adds.
So, it’s not you who got demoted. It’s really your competitors who got promoted, rightly so, for maintaining high-quality all this while.
How To Deal With Core Updates?
“Several times a year, we make significant, broad changes to our search algorithms and systems. We refer to these as “core updates”.”
Meaning, Google will continue pushing the core updates. It’s not a one-off thing. So, it’s important that you know how to deal with such updates.
How do you do it?
You know the answer: Focus on the quality of the content you publish.
“We suggest focusing on ensuring you’re offering the best content you can. That’s what our algorithms seek to reward.”
It’s no secret that Google rewards content that is in-depth, of high quality and bring the most value. There’s a reason, after all, why the average Google first page result contains 1,890 words.
So, if you’re really serious about dominating the SERP, invest on copywriters and content creators just as much as you do on top SMO companies in India.
Produce highly-valuable content. Before hitting that “Publish” button, self-assess the quality that content.
Of course, “quality” itself is quite subjective. To help you here, Google has provided a range of questions that you should ask yourself:
Questions Self-Assess The Quality Of Your Content
- Does this content provide comprehensive detail of the topic?
- Is the headline relevant to the content or is it a clickbait/spam?
- Is this content original?
- Does the content have a USP that’s beyond the obvious details?
- Is this content bookmark-worthy?
- Can this content be referenced on magazines and books?
Ask these questions and you will have a fair idea of whether your content is of high quality or not.
The Three Other Parameters
- Presentation and Production
These are three other parameters Google wants you to measure the value of your content on.
The content that would do better on SERP must have expert insights and authoritative tone. It must be presented to the consumers in the right way (no typos, good grammar, proper font, easy visibility on small devices).
And, in the end, if it is to outdo other results on SERP for your targeted keywords, the content must be better than them.
It’s all about the quality of the content.
If your website is spilling poor quality content, there’s a good chance that it might have been hit following the core algorithm updates – because your competitors who did produce better-value content was rewarded.
Starting today, focus on quality. Get rid of all the blog posts on the site that are poor. Or, revamp and repurpose them.
When then next Google core update hits, if you have done producing superior quality content that fits Google’s guidelines the right way – you will get rewarded.
