Increase Website Engagement in 2021: Why and How (Part 1/2)

Go to your Analytics and find out the average bounce rate and session duration.

How do those numbers look?

If your bounce rate is high and session duration low, it’s a clear indication that your website visitors aren’t properly engaging with your website.

And this is a problem.

Poor website user engagement can cascade to hurt your search ranking. It can leak potential customers, resulting in a loss of revenue. To that, it can even hurt the brand’s presence and reputation.

So, it’s important that you take adequate measures to ensure good website user engagement in 2021 and beyond.

Here are 5 effective tips:

1. Attract relevant audience

One of the biggest cons of optimizing the content with non-related keywords is that while it may bring you more traffic, that traffic could be irrelevant. Those people wouldn’t really find your content or your offerings relevant. In that case, why would they then engage with your content?!

So, ideally, you want to include relevant keywords in the content that maps to visitors' intent.

Similarly, this should be noted when running paid ads on Google or social media platforms. Don’t run campaigns that target the wrong, non-targeted audience.

“Bad traffic” coming to your site could be a big reason why your website engagement rate is bad. Address this reason by focusing on attracting a targeted audience.

Of course, doing this is easier said than done. So, if you’re lost and need help, hire an SEO company San Jose or anywhere in the world. Go through several digital marketing companies in India and pick one that has a strong SEO team and track-record.+

2. Improve internal link building

Someone came to your page, read the blog post, and liked it. Now you want them to browse around on the site. But here’s a thing: if they are not told what you want them to do, there’s a good chance that they might not do it.

This is why internal link building is so important.

Within your blog posts, as well as on that landing page, you should include links to other relevant pages on your site.

For instance, if your blog post is on “How to find the best bomber jacket to buy”, internal linking a relevant blog post like “Top 10 bomber jacket of this season” can lead to a lower bounce rate and higher session duration.

So, improve your internal link-building game. Start with those pages that are getting good traffic but the bounce rate is very high. Add more internal links on that page. Ask readers to jump to different pages.
