With TikTok now banned in India, thousands of influencers and brands who dominated this video sharing app are left clueless.
Of course, Instagram is a natural go-to for them.
But then growing on Instagram isn’t as easy as it was on TikTok.
Owned by Facebook, this photo-sharing app is saturated already. Its algorithm works differently. And there are plenty of other factors on the way that makes growing here more challenging.
In the previous part of this 3-post series, we touched this topic. We discussed how Indian influencers and brands can move from TikTok to grow on Instagram so as to maintain their financial and social position. We also included the first tip there in this list of 9 tips. If you didn’t read it, please go here and read: Moving From TikTok to Instagram: A Guide for Influencers and Brands
Here are 8 other tips how to blow up on Instagram to build an even bigger audience than what you might have had on TikTok:
2. Leverage On Instagram Reels
Instagram is testing a new feature ‘Reels’ in India (and Brazil, France, and Germany).
It’s a short-form video sharing feature, which is quite similar to TikTok.
The feature is integrated within the Instagram app.
You can create short videos, edit it, add background music, and do much more with Instagram Reels that you did with TikTok.
So, be an early player at Instagram Reels. It will boost your profile reach. Plus, since coming from TikTok, you will find this feature quite native.
3. Spend on Paid Ads
Want to have more followers on Instagram? Invest on paid ads. This is very important now.
Thankfully, ads on Instagram is relatively cheaper; especially the Stories ads.
4. Leave Thoughtful Comments
Follow other relevant accounts on Instagram. Consume their content and leave thoughtful comments in their posts.
If you’re leaving interesting and valuable comments, it will catch people’s attention. This, in turn, will boost your profile visit, number of followers, and post engagement.
The more comments you leave (strategically), the more rewarding will it be for you.
But, again, remember, you have to be thoughtful with your comments – and not spammy.
5. Try Cross-Channel Promotion
Aside from building your Instagram, you should pay just as much attention to other platforms.
The biggest mistake influencers and brands made on TikTok was to focus entirely on this particular channel and not using this attention to grow on other platforms. They relied entirely on a single platform; many are paying for it now.
So, as we mentioned in tip #1, you want to focus on building your audience on all important platforms.
Throughout this process, you want to do cross-channel promotion from time to time.
Ask your followers and connections on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and other platforms to connect with you on Instagram.
6. Tap on IGTV Power
The organic reach of IGTV videos is (still) relatively higher. Tap on it while it’s here.
Besides, IGTV brings a great opportunity to post long-form videos on Instagram.
So, if you’re a professional content creator, you can use this feature to build your audience on Instagram. It’s not going to be easy, but the rewards are great.
